It’s RSVP, Not RSVMaybe RSVMaybe Not.

Have you tried to plan a party lately?

You send the e-vites, wait for the RSVPs to come in a hopefully timely manner, and then buy your food and drink according to those guest numbers. ( Imagine the sound of a needle being pulled across a vinyl record here)…..Nope!  Not anymore.  Guest often fail to RSVP entirely, wait until the “day of”, or RSVP and no show.  Have we really become a society of socially inept manner-less guests?

I’m not referring to the bombardment of face-book invites we all receive daily, I’m speaking of real invitations; parties, gatherings, and events.  Behind these invites are kind hearted people thinking of YOU and making an effort; whether it’s buying and preparing food, decorating a party, or working hard on an event with weeks of preparation!

If you’ve been reading my posts lately, you know that my favorite saying is this: How you do ANYTHING is how you do EVERYTHING!  If you are indeed the kind of person I mention above, chances are you often fail to really commit to things in your life or dare I say, finish things you start.

Although I’m a social creature outwardly, inside I’m a nest-er.  When I RSVP yes to a party; 100% of the time I have remorse the day before, not really wanting to make the effort to attend.  If I’ve said yes, I force myself to go and more often than not have a wonderful time.  My point is this: no one likes to commit in today’s busy world, but cancelling, no showing and worse yet, not responding to an invite is just wrong.  Being an adult consists of many attributes. One of the most important in my mind; having manners.  Remember those?  Living a gracious life with an open heart requires us to sometimes step outside of our comfort zones.  Make a decision and stick with it and if you can’t commit, than at the very least; RSVP no.

RSVP is the french phrase; répondez s’il vous plaît or répondre s’il vous plaît.  Meaning “reply please”.

Life gives you what you put into it~keep up those poor manners and you may find the invites dwindle as your social circle constricts, but then again; C’est la vie, meaning that’s life and there’s nothing you can do about it.
