Plant a garlic clove next to your roses and gift your soil with sulfur as well as other minerals and enzymes that roses love.  Garlic acts as an insect repellent and protects against black spots.  Any member of the allium family such as chives, leeks, onions or shallots will do the trick.

Now if only I had a cure for thorns!  🙂
