Summer’s Not Over: How to Squeeze Out a Bit More Fun.

Do you always end summers with regrets of what you didn’t do?

Don’t dispair- even though we’ve passed the start of the school season, summer’s not over just yet.

We might be heading full steam ahead towards the Autumn equinox, but don’t despair, there’s still time to squeeze a little more juice out of the warm season.

When was the last time you went for a pleasure ride at night?

Pleasure rides aren’t about getting a work-out, or really even about anything. They are all about pure pleasure.

Riding your bike in the cool night air with no agenda, no attention to speed and no worries about how many calories you’re burning is your ticket to freedom.  Noticing the sights, smelling the fresh grass, and hearing the sound of crickets will leave you feeling as though you’ve been away to summer camp for a week.

I scream for ice cream.

It’s summer.  You’ve earned a little indulgence, don’t you think?  Ice cream isn’t just for kids.  Run down that ice cream truck or stick your head deep into one of those grocery store coolers and get yourself something yummy.  Nothing makes me feel like a kid again like sheepishly holding a wooden stick and licking cool creamy lusciousness after a hot summer day.

Star gaze on a blanket.

Sure everyone looks up at the night sky once in a while, but when’s the last time you spread out a blanket on some grass and plopped yourself down under the magic carpet of black wonder and really gazed up at the galaxies?  For me, doing this puts everything into perspective.  Hearing the crickets, seeing the lightening bugs and watching the stars twinkle and fall over head, all add up to a peaceful easy summer feeling.

Jump into a pool.

Personally, I’m a nature girl that loves beautiful lakes and flowing rivers, but nothing matches the icy cold chlorine scented experience of jumping into a deep blue pool and hearing the sound of bubbling water all surround me.  Add in the sounds of kids splashing and a slide, and I’m instantly seven years old again.

Don’t think about those kiddos peeing around you, I can assure you there’s enough chlorine in there to kill everything.  Remember to shower off after you’re out but let yourself have the experience.

Have a meal outside.

Whether you live in the city or in an area where you have privacy, get yourself outside and enjoy a meal.  Everyone knows that food mysteriously tastes better when you eat it outside.

I start my day with a cup of something warm out on the step leading to my backyard.  The feeling of the sun on my skin, the sound of the birds, and the smell of freshly watered grass launches me forward into my day with a smile.

Keep it as simple as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or go for a full-blown picnic, but take it outside.

[tweetable message=”Summer passes quickly; so don’t waste it with excuses of busyness”]  Slow down and enjoy the remaining days and nights, because before you know it, you’ll be counting the days until summer again.
